As we celebrate 70 years of Pienaar Brothers, we’ve had the wonderful opportunity to take a walk down memory lane with Warren Spiro, our 3rd generation Managing Director.
In an exclusive Q&A with the Cape Chamber of Commerce, Warren reflects on the story behind Pienaar Brothers — from our beginnings in 1956, when Alex Lapiner travelled from farm to farm supplying farmers with whatever they needed, to the national PPE and safety business we are today.
Along the way, he shares some of the stories, people and philosophies that have shaped the business across three generations — including the rather unexpected story behind the name “Pienaar Brothers”.
The interview also looks at the challenges facing the PPE industry today, the importance of compliance and quality, our commitment to education through our CSI initiatives, and the philosophy that has remained constant for 70 years: understanding our customers and helping them solve problems.
A sincere thank you to the Cape Chamber of Commerce for the opportunity to reflect on our history, celebrate how far we’ve come, and share a little of the Pienaar Brothers story. It was a privilege to take this walk down memory lane.
